This municipal pitch in Madrid needed better evening playing conditions without a stadium-sized energy bill. Delivered in 2020, the project deployed 36 units of the MS1 Stadium Light tuned to a maintained level of 150 lux, the recognised benchmark for grassroots competition, club training and community use under the relevant European standards.
The design started from the target rather than the catalogue. By modelling several combinations of beam angle, mounting height and aiming, the team reached the required uniformity with thirty-six fixtures instead of a larger, more power-hungry array — lower capital cost and a smaller operating footprint. Each luminaire is fitted with a glare-control visor, an important detail on a site where residential streets run close to the boundary: the light stays on the pitch instead of washing into neighbouring windows. The MS1 housing in die-cast aluminium with IP66 sealing and surge-protected electronics was specified for Madrid's hot summers, sudden storms and local grid conditions, and its high-efficacy LED engine keeps the running cost per training hour low.
Verification was carried out by on-site illuminance measurement before handover, and the system was commissioned to schedule. The club and the municipal operator reported a step change in evening training quality and ball visibility, plus noticeably quieter neighbours. Measured energy draw against the previous installation met the payback case made at the start of the project.
